The Durban University of Technology (DUT) has issued a formal warning to the public regarding an organisation calling itself KwaZulu Natal Matric Excellence, following the circulation of a video on social media that suggests an affiliation with the university.

In a statement, DUT made it clear that it has no relationship with the entity and cautioned members of the public against being misled by what it described as false claims.

The university confirms that it has no connection with KwaZulu Natal Matric Excellence,” the statement reads.

DUT further clarified that it “is not involved in, nor does it endorse or support the activities or programmes of this apparent school.”

According to the university, the misleading claims go beyond online content. DUT revealed that individuals linked to the organisation have allegedly been using official university branding without permission.

“It has also come to the university’s attention that individuals associated with KwaZulu Natal Matric Excellence are using unauthorised DUT logos on their t-shirts, to create a false impression of legitimacy,” the statement said.

The university stressed that such actions are unacceptable and urged the public to remain cautious.

The university urges the public to please be vigilant and not believe the misinformation that is circulating,” DUT said.

DUT also indicated that it is prepared to pursue legal remedies if the misuse of its name or identity continues.

DUT reserves the right to take legal action against any individual and/or organisation attempting to use the university’s name, logo and/or imply association with any of its campuses, including M.L Sultan campus, for personal and/or financial gain,” the statement warned.

The university advised that all official and reliable information should be obtained only from its recognised platforms.

For official, credible information, please always refer to DUT’s verified communication channels, including the university’s website, official DUT social media pages or direct contact with University offices,” the statement concluded.

KwaZulu Natal Matric Excellence was contacted for comment.
