Four suspects wanted in connection with serious and violent crimes, including murder, attempted murder, and robbery with a firearm, were shot and fatally wounded during a shootout with police in Inanda on Tuesday night.

According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the incident occurred on Tuesday, February 10 at Amatikwe Area 2.

He said police acted on intelligence indicating that the wanted suspects had been located at a hideout described as a two-roomed shack. Officers responded to the information and proceeded to the identified location.

Netshiunda said that “when police arrived at the scene, a shootout ensued between the suspects and police which resulted in the four wanted suspects sustaining fatal gunshot wounds.”

Authorities reported that four firearms, all pistols along with several rounds of ammunition were recovered from the suspects at the scene. SAPS confirmed that no officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire.

A week ago four suspects linked to a string of violent crimes were shot and killed during an intelligence-driven police operation at Adam’s Mission, within the KwaMakhutha policing precinct south of Durban.

Police said at the time that the suspects were wanted in connection with armed robberies, house robberies, carjackings and kidnappings in Umbumbulu and surrounding areas.
