Police are searching for a fourth suspect in connection with the murder of an e-hailing driver in Pretoria at the weekend after three suspects appeared in court on Monday.
The swift arrest of the three suspects comes after video footage of the brutal murder of the driver went viral on social media.
The driver has been identified as 22-year-old Nigerian national Isaac Satlat. It is alleged that Satlat, who was operating on the Bolt platform, was allegedly lured to his death on February 11 after a male and female posed as passengers and requested a trip in Pretoria West.
Provincial police spokesperson Mavela Masondo has confirmed that police are still searching for the fourth suspect.
During their appearance in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday, the three accused Dikeledi Tears Phela, Gositsiane Machidi and McClaren Mushwana abandoned their bail application, according to the Saturday Star.
Supporters had gathered outside the court demanding ‘Justice for Isaac’. The three accused will be back in court on February 23.
Meanwhile in KwaZulu-Natal, e-hailing drivers are calling for arrests to be made after an e-hailing driver was assaulted during an altercation with taxi association members in Phoenix.
The KZN Transport MEC Siboniso Duma condemned the incident. The driver had just dropped off a passenger at the Phoenix Plaza shopping centre when he was accosted and assaulted. His vehicle was also taken but was later released, police reported.
