It has been nearly two years since the George building collapse that killed 34 people — and the case is now with prosecutors.

Premier Alan Winde confirmed in George during his State of the Province Address on Wednesday that the police have completed their investigation into the May 6 2024 disaster, when a five-storey apartment block under construction collapsed in Victoria Street.

The collapse killed 34 construction workers and injured dozens more.

It was one of the deadliest building disasters in SA in recent years.

“I can now confirm that the police have completed their investigation into all aspects of the disaster, including the peer-reviewed report that we handed to the police early last year,” Winde said.

He added: “The case docket is now with the National Prosecuting Authority for a decision on prosecution.”

“After two years, it is time for justice.”

The NPA will now decide whether criminal charges will be brought.
