The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) has advised that N2 highway will be closed in both directions from Saturday, March 7 until Monday morning to accommodate the demolition of the old Wandsbeck Bridge.
“This closure is part of the ongoing upgrade of the EB Cloete Interchange and surrounding road and bridges,” said Jason Lowe, SANRAL’s KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Office Road Safety Specialist Engineer.
The temporary road closures will take place as follows:·
N2 Northbound and Southbound Carriageways: Both carriageways will be fully closed between the Inanda Road interchange and EB Cloete Interchange (aka Spaghetti Junction) from 18:00 on Saturday, 7 March 2026 to 04:00 on Monday, 9 March 2026
The N3 remains fully open.
SANRAL said trucks and heavy vehicles should try to delay trips over this period, find suitable staging areas or reroute using the alternative route options to avoid major congestion.
“Public transport operators are asked to ensure their drivers are aware of route closures and alternatives affecting their commuter routes. All road-users are advised to plan their routes ahead of time and where possible leave for destinations earlier than usual.”
“SANRAL appeals to road users to note and comply with the advance warning signs and speed restrictions when travelling past the construction work zones. To prioritise the safety of both the construction workers and road users, the speed limit along the route is reduced during construction,” added Lowe.
