Law enforcement agencies have intensified their crackdown on organised crime following two high-value operations in Umbilo and the Bluff, resulting in the seizure of narcotics and illicit goods.

In a coordinated strike yesterday, the Durban Metro Police Tactical Support Unit and the Metro Police Task Team, working with SAPS KwaZulu-Natal Counter Narcotics, arrested a 27-year-old foreign national in Umbilo. Officers intercepted the suspect as he exited his vehicle while executing a search warrant.

The search led to the discovery of "pure cocaine concealed inside a sock," according to a Durban Metro Police Service statement.

A further search of the suspect’s flat led to the discovery of additional drugs, bringing the total estimated street value to nearly R600,000.

Cocaine worth nearly R600 000 was seized in an operation in Umbilo.

"Preliminary investigations indicate that the same suspect was previously arrested in 2025 for possession of cocaine valued at approximately R400,000," the statement confirmed.

Authorities believe the suspect is linked to a larger network. "This arrest forms part of an ongoing investigation into a drug trafficking syndicate, believed to have links to an international network involved in the trafficking, manufacturing, storage, and distribution of narcotics."

In a separate "multi-disciplinary enforcement operation" on the Bluff, a joint team targeting illegal business activities seized illicit cigarettes worth over R616,000. The operation included SARS Customs, Immigration officials, and the Durban Metro Police K9 Unit.

In addition, two business premises were inspected, leading to the arrest of two Bangladeshi nationals by Metro Police K9 members for the sale of "Schedule 6 medication (sex-enhancing pills)."

One suspect was also charged for possession of Section 36 property, specifically SAPS exhibit bags.

During the inspections, "two business licences were confiscated pending further investigations," while immigration officials "opened an enquiry into the authenticity of a marriage involving a Bangladeshi national."

Both suspects were detained at Brighton Beach SAPS for further processing.

The Durban Metro Police Service stated it "remains committed to supporting joint operations that enhance crime prevention efforts and protect communities across eThekwini."
