The countdown to Africa’s greatest horse racing and lifestyle event has officially begun, with organisers unveiling “Country Allure” as the theme for the 2026 Hollywoodbets Durban July.
The announcement was made on Thursday at the Parade Ring at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse, setting the stage for what promises to be another standout edition of the iconic event, scheduled for Saturday, 4 July 2026.
Race Coast said the the theme is a celebration of rural charm and equestrian elegance and calls on designers, fashion enthusiasts, and racegoers to draw inspiration from South Africa’s countryside landscapes and the heritage of thoroughbred racing.
It also reflects the environments where racehorses are bred and trained, blending authenticity with the glamour that has become synonymous with the Durban July.
Stephen Marshall, Head of Major Events, Marketing and Broadcast at Race Coast, said the theme pays homage to the roots of the sport while encouraging creativity.
“This year’s theme celebrates the elegance and authenticity at the heart of horse racing. It reflects the beauty of the countryside while inspiring people to interpret it in unique and imaginative ways,” he said.
Beyond the fashion spectacle, the Hollywoodbets Durban July remains a red-letter day on South Africa’s sporting calendar and a major tourism economic driver for KwaZulu-Natal.
According to figures from the 2025 event, attendance reached 40,192, and the event contributed approximately R840 million to Durban’s GDP, supported around 4,500 jobs across multiple sectors, and generated about R50 million in national and provincial tax revenue. Hotels in the city also recorded occupancy rates of roughly 80% during race week.
Chairperson of eThekwini Municipality’s Economic Development and Planning Committee, Councillor Thembo Ntuli, welcomed the theme and reaffirmed the City’s commitment to delivering a world-class experience.
“We look forward to welcoming thousands of punters, fashionistas, and visitors to Durban. This event plays a vital role in boosting tourism, supporting jobs, and growing the fashion industry while strengthening the City’s position as a premier events destination,” Ntuli said.
The fashion industry is expected to once again take centre stage, with designers embracing the storytelling potential of the theme.
Mzwandile Mathonsi, founder of the ZWANDYY fashion brand, described “Country Allure” as a concept rich in creative opportunity.
“It allows us to explore heritage and sophistication in bold ways. The Durban July is a platform to grow, reach new audiences, and showcase African creativity,” he said.
Hollywoodbets brand and communications manager Devin Heffer described the event as “the most anticipated highlight on South Africa’s sporting and lifestyle calendar”, combining top-tier racing with an unforgettable social experience.
