Private security company Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) said its officers responded to the shooting after receiving multiple calls from the public reporting gunfire in the area.
“Reaction Officers were immediately mobilised and converged on the scene. On arrival, officers established that two occupants of a white Toyota Hilux bakkie had come under attack from individuals travelling in a white Toyota Quantum.
“The bakkie was extensively damaged after being riddled with bullets. Paramedics from a private ambulance service attended to the passenger who sustained multiple gunshot wounds before transporting him to a nearby hospital for further medical treatment. The driver sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased on scene.”
A significant number of spent cartridges were recovered on scene, indicating the use of high calibre firearms, the Rusa statement said.
