Four teenagers were gunned down inside a Motherwell, Gqeberha home in broad daylight, with a fifth left fighting for his life in hospital.

Police spokeswoman Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana said the victims, aged 17 and 18, were found with gunshot wounds to their heads after a shooting at a house in Mnenga Street, NU10, on Wednesday afternoon.

“[Police are] working around the clock investigating the murders of four persons," she said.

She said Motherwell police received a call about the shooting at about 1.30pm.

“On arrival, first responders found five males inside the house," Gantana said.

"Four males were lying in the lounge with gunshot wounds to their heads; two were unresponsive, and two were gasping for breath.

"A fifth male was found unresponsive in the bedroom, also with a gunshot wound to the head."

Metro Emergency Medical Services declared three males dead at the scene.

A fourth died while paramedics tried to resuscitate him.

The fifth was rushed to hospital.

“Their names will be released once next-of-kin notification is completed,” said police.

A case of murder with four counts and one count of attempted murder has been opened.

The case is being handled by the Serious and Violent Crime Investigation Unit.

“The motive for the murders and the identity of the suspects are currently unknown. No witnesses have come forward,” police said.
