Two suspects linked to a business robbery were killed in a shootout with Gauteng police on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.

The incident occurred at approximately 6.18pm near business premises in Stormhill, Florida.

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said officers from Florida SAPS were patrolling the area when they noticed two men behaving suspiciously.

Police attempted to stop the suspects, but they fired at officers, prompting a shootout.

Both suspects were fatally wounded, and a firearm was recovered.

“Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspects were involved in a business robbery at a local company,” Sibeko said.

Police have opened cases of business robbery, two counts of attempted murder and two counts of murder.

She said an investigation is underway.

In a separate incident on the same day, two suspects involved in a courier vehicle robbery were killed, and another was injured during a shootout with police on the R25 in Kempton Park.

Police said members of crime intelligence received information about suspects planning to rob a courier vehicle in Etwatwa, Ekurhuleni.

A joint operation involving the SAPS Tactical Response Team, Gauteng Traffic Police Air Wing, DPC Tracking Team, DPCI Tracking Team, CAP Specialised Operations, Tracker Connect, Gemini Global Defence and BadBoyz Security was activated.

While conducting surveillance, officers spotted vehicles matching the description provided and followed them to the R25 in Kempton Park.

According to the police statement, as the cops attempted to stop the vehicles, suspects travelling in a white Volkswagen Jetta allegedly opened fire, leading to a shootout.

Two suspects were fatally wounded, while another sustained injuries and was taken to hospital under police guard.

Police said they recovered two firearms, blue lights and police reflector jackets from the suspects’ vehicle.

“The search for suspects who fled in the other vehicle is underway,” police said.

“The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to determine whether they were used in other crimes.”

Gauteng provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, who visited the scene, praised the officers involved.

“We have squeezed the space for criminals,” Mthombeni said.

“Police are out in numbers to ensure people in Gauteng are protected this festive season, and we will strive to remain a step ahead of criminals.”
