Police in KwaZulu-Natal are investigating a case of murder following the fatal shooting of four family members at the Mdweshule area in the Mehlomyama policing precinct on Wednesday night.

According to South African Police Service (Saps) spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza, the attack unfolded when armed suspects forced their way into a rondavel occupied by a woman and her fiancé.

“It is alleged by the witness that four unknown males kicked open the door of the rondavel in which she was in with her fiancé,” Magwaza said.

He added that three of the suspects were armed with firearms, while one was carrying a bush knife.

The suspects allegedly demanded money and, when informed that there was none, opened fire on the woman’s 45-year-old fiancé, killing him at the scene.

The woman was then allegedly ordered to lead the suspects to other family members on the property.

Upon reaching the main house, the attackers reportedly shot and killed a mother and her two daughters, aged between 31 and 67.

“The suspects then fled the scene, taking with them two cellphones,” Magwaza said.

No arrests have been made at this stage, and police investigations are ongoing. Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is urged to contact the Saps.
