A suspected robber was shot and killed in a high-speed chase with police following a business robbery on Allandale Road in Midrand on Friday afternoon.

Police said two suspects were arrested.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said officers responded to a business robbery and were on the lookout for a Hyundai i20.

“The vehicle was spotted on Allandale Road and, upon seeing the police lights, it sped off, resulting in a high-speed chase and shootout,” she said.

The vehicle was intercepted at the corner of Allandale Road and Waterfall Drive.

One suspect was declared dead at the scene, while the other two were arrested. A firearm and an undisclosed amount of cash were also seized.

Earlier this month, three suspects were fatally wounded in a shootout with police on the N12 near Soweto on January 14, 2026.

Police said the suspects, who had just robbed a courier vehicle in Tokoza, were driving a silver Corolla when officers tried to stop them.

“They sped off, leading to a high-speed chase and shootout,” Nevhuhulwi said.

The vehicle eventually came to a standstill on the N12 between Xavier and Soweto off-ramp. Three suspects were declared dead and one injured.

Police recovered two firearms and some of the suspected stolen goods.

Gauteng Police Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni praised the coordinated effort between the National Counter Intelligence, Gauteng Tactical Response Team, Gauteng Traffic Police Airwing, and private security companies, saying it ensures that criminals are brought to justice.
