Police in Limpopo are hunting for suspects after a traditional healer was murdered and a Toyota Hilux was stolen during a robbery on Monday.

The incident took place at the Traditional Authority’s Royal House in Hamakhubva Ndarieni Village in the Thohoyandou policing precinct.

The provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, condemned the murder of the 59-year-old traditional healer.

“It is alleged that during the early hours of Monday, March 2, at approximately midnight, two unknown suspects forcibly gained entry into the residence by breaking a window. Upon entering, they reportedly demanded money and vehicle keys.

“During the incident, one victim sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The 59-year-old traditional leader was tragically declared deceased at the scene,” Ledwaba said.

The suspects fled the scene after the murder.

“The suspects allegedly fled the scene with a white Toyota Hilux (registration number FVN 938L), a laptop, a television set, and two cellular phones. The suspects were reportedly wearing balaclavas and security-type uniforms. One suspect was armed with a firearm, while the other carried a knife,” Ledwaba said.

The Limpopo Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has directed police to use all available resources to track and trace the suspects.

“I have set up a specialised team to mobilise necessary resources to ensure that these perpetrators are swiftly brought to book to face the full might of the law. We call upon our communities and all relevant stakeholders to assist the police with information that may lead to the arrest of these ruthless criminals,” Hadebe said.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Anyone with information that may assist in the investigation is urged to contact the Investigating Officer, Constable Tshavhungwe Rendani, at 072 189 2544, visit the nearest police station, or call Crime Stop at 08600 10111. Information can also be shared via the MySAPS App.
