Four life sentences for man who hunted women for 11 years.

A serial rapist who terrorised women in and around Mafikeng for more than a decade has been sentenced to four life terms of imprisonment.
Thapelo Joseph Chukutshwane, 34, was sentenced by the Molopo Regional Court after pleading guilty to five counts of rape and one count of housebreaking with intent to rob.
Welcoming the outcome, National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Sivenathi Gunya said the conviction brought justice to victims who had endured years of trauma.
"Chukutshwane received four life sentences plus an additional 20 years' imprisonment after being convicted on five counts of rape and one count of housebreaking with intent to rob," he said.
The court heard that between 2013 and 2024, women aged between 17 and 43 were attacked by an unknown man who raped them and stole their belongings.
In one horrifying incident, a 43-year-old woman was asleep in her home when the attacker forced his way inside.
"The accused forcibly gained entry by breaking down the door before raping and robbing her of several items."
DNA evidence ultimately sealed the case against the accused, linking him to the crimes and leading to his arrest in August 2025.
"Through DNA analysis, investigators were able to link Chukutshwane to the crimes, which led to his arrest in August 2025," Gunya said.
Along with the life sentences, the court ordered that Chukutshwane's name be placed on the National Register for Sexual Offenders and declared him unfit to possess a firearm.
Victims were assisted through the Mafikeng Thuthuzela Care Centre, where they received medical, emotional, and legal support following the attacks.
"We stand united in our resolve to ensure justice is served, and we reiterate that violent crimes will not be tolerated," said Director of Public Prosecutions in the North West, Dr Rachel Makhari.
