Eight detainees escape from Maluti police cells.

Eastern Cape police are investigating the escape of eight detainees from the Afsondering Police Station cells in Maluti on Saturday.
Authorities are pursuing multiple charges of escaping from lawful custody.
Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana, police spokesperson, confirmed the incident.
"The circumstances surrounding the escape are currently under investigation, and we are working to establish how it occurred," she said.
The escapees have been identified as Asiphe Yawu, Abraham Gobozi, Kwanele Mzala, Siphelele Mkhulisi, Thabo Nana, Siphelele Nondolo, Anele Ludidi, and Sinethemba Mazendala.

Police have also opened a separate investigation into aiding and abetting to determine whether others facilitated the escape.
Gantana urged the public to assist with the investigation.
"Members of the public who may have information that could help locate the escapees are urged to contact the investigating team immediately."
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are following all leads to ensure the suspects are apprehended.
