Police in Gauteng are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder following a road-rage-linked shooting in Emmarentia at the weekend.
According to reports, the shooting followed an argument that ensued after a minor accident.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, said two male drivers were involved in a road rage incident at Emmarentia, which led to a physical altercation.
"It is alleged that a female passenger suspected to be the wife of one of the drivers went to get a firearm from the car and the second driver also pulled out his firearm resulting in a shooting which claimed the life of the husband while the other driver sustained minor injuries and the female passenger was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound," Nevhuhulwi explained.
She added that police will be investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.
Nevhuhulwi has urged drivers to abide by traffic rules and exercise patience while using public roads to avoid road rage situations.
According to the Institute for Driver Safety, more than 1,000 people died in road rage incidents in the country in 2026.
"Road rage doesn’t solve anything. It escalates. A hoot becomes a gesture. A gesture becomes a confrontation. And sometimes, as in this case, it ends in tragedy. No matter how justified you feel in the moment, it is never worth your life — or someone else’s. Take a breath. Let it go. Create space. Get home safely," the Institute shared.
