A police Constable based in Durban's Public Order Policing unit is among three suspects arrested in Babanango, KwaZulu-Natal, after officers intercepted a vehicle allegedly transporting dagga along the R34 on Friday afternoon.
Police said they received intelligence about a white Toyota Rumion suspected of carrying dagga from Nongoma towards Ulundi, prompting a multi-unit operation involving officers from Babanango, Ulundi, Mahlabathini and the Ulundi K9 Unit.
"Upon searching the vehicle, police found 31 bales of dagga wrapped with a brown cello tape," said SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda.

Three occupants were arrested for dealing in dagga, including the driver.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, Major General Phumelele Makoba, commended officers for acting without fear or favour.
"Police officers are not above the law and must be exemplary in the communities."
She said disciplinary processes have been initiated against the officer alongside criminal proceedings, adding that law enforcement must first ensure accountability within its own ranks.
"We cannot afford to have police officers breaking the very same law which they are supposed to uphold and enforce."
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
