Lawyers for businessman Sulliman Carrim will reportedly move to seek a postponement of his scheduled appearance at the Madlanga Commission, setting the stage for a fresh legal clash just hours before proceedings are due to begin.

Carrim is expected to appear at 9:30am on Friday before the commission, which is probing allegations of criminality, corruption and political interference within the criminal justice system.

His legal team’s bid to delay his testimony follows a failed attempt to block his summons through the High Court.

Earlier this week, Carrim approached the court seeking to set aside his subpoena, arguing that his appearance before the commission was unlawful.

The application was struck off the roll, clearing the way for the commission to proceed and leaving Carrim with limited legal options as the hearing approaches.

Carrim, a senior ANC figure in the North West, serves as treasurer of the party’s Ngaka Modiri Molema region.

He was thrust into the spotlight after his name emerged during testimony before the commission, raising questions about his alleged role in matters under investigation.

The ANC in the province has confirmed that Carrim remains a member in good standing.

However, party officials have stopped short of defending him on the merits, saying they will withhold comment on the allegations until the commission concludes its work.

The commission has maintained that it will continue with its mandate without fear or favour.
