Day visits to the Kruger National Park (KNP) are set to resume on Monday following a temporary suspension caused by heavy rainfall in Limpopo and Mpumalanga.
According to South African National Parks (SANParks), access to the park has been partially restored after assessments were conducted in areas affected by flooding. However, the northern section of the park will remain closed after several roads and bridges were severely damaged or washed away.
SANParks spokesperson JP Louw said visitors should exercise caution when traveling through the park, particularly by avoiding gravel roads, which may still be unsafe due to water damage. Guests have also been urged to strictly follow all official signage and instructions while inside the park.
The conservation authority has further warned that shops within the park are currently experiencing low stock levels as a result of earlier access challenges. Visitors are encouraged to bring essential supplies with them to avoid inconvenience.
While the northern region remains inaccessible until further notice, day visitors will be allowed to enter the southern part of the park through Paul Kruger, Numbi, Malelane and Phabeni gates.
SANParks noted that Phabeni Gate is under close observation because of fluctuating water levels in a nearby stream and may be closed at short notice if conditions deteriorate. Crocodile Bridge Gate remains closed until further notice.
SANParks said it will continue to monitor weather and infrastructure conditions and will issue updates as required.
