The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed social grant payment dates for April 2026, alongside increases announced for the new financial year.

SASSA says payments will begin early in the month, in line with its standard approach to stagger disbursements. Older persons will be paid first, followed by disability and children’s grants.

For April 2026, the payment dates are as follows:

  • Older Person’s Grant: Thursday, April 2, 2026
  • Disability Grant: Tuesday, April 7, 2026
  • Children’s Grant: Wednesday, April 8, 2026

“The general principle for determining the grant payment dates for social grants is to ensure they are paid as early in the month as possible, staggered over three days,” the agency said.

SASSA explained that several factors are considered when setting payment dates, including avoiding payments immediately after public holidays, on weekends, or on the first day of the month.

“Payments should not be made a day after a holiday. Payments should not be made on the 1st of the month or a Monday; and payment dates should not fall over a weekend.”

The agency added that if a scheduled payment date falls on a weekend or public holiday, it will be moved to the next working day to ensure beneficiaries can access their funds without disruption.

Meanwhile, grant beneficiaries will see increases from April, following the national budget announcement by National Treasury. The Older Persons, Disability and Care Dependency grants will increase by R80 to R2 400, while the War Veterans Grant rises to R2 420.

The Foster Child Grant will increase by R40 to R1 290, and the Child Support Grant, along with the Grant-In-Aid, will increase by R20 to R580.

SASSA reiterated its commitment to timely payments and urged beneficiaries experiencing issues to seek assistance.

“SASSA reiterates its commitment to paying social grants to eligible beneficiaries at the right time and appeals to all beneficiaries who may have not received their grants on these specified dates to visit their nearest SASSA local office for assistance,” the agency said.
