As weather conditions remain serious across the Western Cape, the Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA) has confirmed that flights have been impacted.

In a statement released on Monday, ACSA said inclement weather has impacted flight operations at the Cape Town International Airport and George Airport.

“Passengers are advised that flights may be delayed, diverted, or cancelled as a result. Despite the inclement weather, both Cape Town International Airport and George remain open and operational,” it said

ACSA said airport operations will be monitored closely, and alternative airports are accommodating diverted flights where required.

“Passengers are encouraged to consult the ACSA Mobile App or their respective airlines for the latest flight information,” it said.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Level 8 warning for disruptive rainfall over the city, as well as the mountainous regions of Drakenstein, Stellenbosch, Breede Valley, Witzenberg, and the western parts of Theewaterskloof.

These conditions are expected to persist until at least Tuesday, SAWS warned, with heavy rain potentially leading to flooding of roads, bridges, as well as formal and informal settlements. It said mudslides and fast-flowing rivers could also pose a danger to life.

The City of Cape Town has confirmed the death of one person after a tree fell on a vehicle in Kenilworth.
