Motorists travelling along the N3 Toll Route between KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State have been urged to exercise caution as strong winds exceeding 70km/h sweep through the Van Reenen Pass area.

The strong winds may also result in fallen debris along the route and possible damage to property.

N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) chief operating officer Thania Dhoogra appealed to motorists to take precautionary measures and heed all warnings while travelling through high-lying areas.

Drivers of vehicles towing trailers or caravans, as well as trucks with high sides or carrying light loads, have been advised to exercise extra caution, particularly between Ladysmith and Harrismith.

Dhoogra urged road users to remain alert to changing weather and driving conditions, and to adjust their driving behaviour accordingly.

Motorists are also encouraged to keep emergency supplies in their vehicles, including blankets, warm clothing, medication, drinking water, food, torches and mobile phone chargers.

N3TC warned that adverse weather conditions could lead to traffic delays, congestion or temporary road closures in the interest of public safety.

N3TC Route Operations teams and partners in the Road Incident Management System (RIMS) have been deployed along the route to assist with incident response, traffic management and emergency support where necessary.
