The South African Weather Service has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for parts of Gauteng eastern parts of both the Free State and North West, Highveld and escarpment areas of Mpumalanga as well as Limpopo province, excluding the Lowveld, with severe thunderstorms expected to bring localised flooding, excessive lightning and hail.

In Gauteng, residents can expect a partly cloudy and warm day, with scattered afternoon showers and thundershowers. Similarly, North West will be partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated to scattered afternoon showers and thundershowers, except in the province’s extreme west, which is expected to remain dry.

Weather authorities have warned motorists and residents to exercise caution on susceptible roads, low-lying areas, and bridges, and to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during storms.
