The sectional play of the PNB Men’s and Women’s Pairs has wrapped up, and section winners are sharpening their focus for the weekend ahead. The men will gather at host club, Parkhill BC, while the women will battle it out at Westville CC on Saturday. Those who survive will reconvene at Parkhill on Sunday to play through to the finals.
But the buzz around the greens is not only about the Pairs. The PNB ladies’ selectors have announced the district squads set to represent PNB at the KZN Quadrangular Tournament, hosted by KZN Country Districts on January 24 and 25, 2026 and thereafter the Bowls South Africa Inter-Districts, scheduled for March 9–13 , where district sides will chase national honours at different host venues across the country.
The Open ladies will make the trip to Western Province with Stella Tweedie as their manager. The side includes Glenda Matthews (Stella Park), Cheryl Mostert (Umhlali), Talia Russon (Hillary), Natalie Botha (Stella Park), Susan Nel (Amanzimtoti), Michelle Gerber (Hillcrest), Debbie de Kock (Mt. Edgecombe), and Shan Trimborn (Hillcrest).
The B side, bound for Ekurhuleni in Gauteng under the guidance of manager Delysia Mitchley, boasts both seasoned competitors and exciting new talent. The side includes Bridget White (Hillary), Cindy Roos (Hillcrest), Hilary Lindsay (a fresh face from Amanzimtoti), Kim Christensen (Stella Park), Linda Tolmay (Umhlali), Odette van Zyl (new cap from Umhlali), Leanne Marsh (new cap from Hillary) and Linda Ellis (new cap from Umhlanga).
The Veteran side — aiming for an impressive third consecutive national title — will be managed by Maria Dreyer. This formidable squad features Sarie Bisset (Amanzimtoti), Claire Murray (Hillcrest), Lesley Levy (Amanzimtoti), Susan Smith (Stella Park), Minnette Hatton-Jones (Stella Park), Gail Jennings (Westville CC), Linda Didlick (Hillary) and Anji Valjee (Umhlanga).
The President’s Side, managed by Shelly Gerber, brings together Alta Joubert (Firwood), Cindy Etherington (Westville CC), Hayley Miller (Hillary), Shannon Burger (new cap from Firwood), Judy Green (new cap from Durban Collegians), Lisa Nicholas (Umhlanga), Bridget Mathews (Westville CC), and Yolande Victor (Umhlali).
Adding further excitement to the local bowls calendar is the announcement of the inaugural Professional Bowls Association (PBA) singles qualifying tournament sponsored by Firwood BC, Aero Durban and Cooper – Boulle Clothing Co., to be held on November 15 and 16. Convener Roger Boulle, an Aero Bowls representative, confirmed that invitations have gone out to the province’s top players, with 64 spots up for grabs.
This KZN qualifier carries real stakes. PBA has allocated two provincial slots for the Fairtree-sponsored Cape Town tournament at Durbanville Bowling Club. Success there could open doors to the Potters World Indoor Bowls Tournament in the UK or the Scottish Open.
The winner of the KZN event will earn a fully sponsored Cape Town trip, including flights, accommodation and tournament entry, while the runner-up will have flights and accommodation covered.
As the main sponsor Firwood BC will serve as headquarters, with additional games at Hillary and Stella Park. It’s a development that signals a new era for the district — one where local bowlers can dream of testing their skills on the world stage.
