One player who might be watching the Proteas make headlines at the T20 World Cup with mixed feelings is Lhuan-dre Pretorius.

The teenager, who turns 20 next month, was one of the interesting omissions from the Proteas squad for the T20 World Cup.

Having already played in all three formats for South Africa, Pretorius is mostly regarded as a T20 player at present. That’s after two seasons in the SA20 for the Paarl Royals, in which he’s scored 621 runs at a strike rate of 147 with five half-centuries and a highest score of 98 not out.

Though he played in the first T20I for South Africa against the West Indies in their three-match series ahead of the World Cup, Pretorius has since turned his attention back to First Class cricket with the Titans.

Pretorius Aims for Big Hundreds with Solid Game Plan in T20 and Test Cricket

He’s already notched up a ton and a half century in two matches, and seems intent on scoring as many runs as possible as he continues to grow his game.

“I personally feel I’ve sold myself short a bit. I would like to spend more time in the middle and score those big hundreds,” Pretorius told SportsBoom.co.za.

Whether it’s T20 or the longest form of the game, the basics always apply, he believes.

“What I’ve found when getting decent scores is making sure the first 30 balls are solid and having a clear game plan,” he explained.

“I am always looking to score straight or attack the short ball; those are my two shots. The rest just takes care of itself.”
