There’s little debate that the Proteas delivered a completely dominant performance against India in their T20 World Cup Super Eights clash in Ahmedabad on Sunday, but the contest wasn’t completely without incident.

In fact, this incident went almost completely unnoticed.

India were already beginning their descent when opener Abhishek Sharma skied a Marco Jansen delivery into the mid-wicket region. Corbin Bosch and Keshav Maharaj both set off for the ball, before Bosch took the catch just as Maharaj collided with his teammate.

Fortunately, Bosch held on and embarrassment was avoided.

Tension Between Bosch and Maharaj During India’s Collapse

However, replays showed a clearly irritated Bosch look back at Maharaj who had landed on top of him just after the catch was taken. A perplexed look was seen on Maharaj’s face as Bosch turned his back to the spinner as he muttered something which lip-readers could find quite interesting.

In the ensuing celebration of the wicket, it’s unclear if Bosch and Maharaj shared any conversation.

One can only speculate what Bosch said to himself after the collision, but what’s certain is that he was clearly not happy with Maharaj as the interaction was decidedly frosty.

At the time, India were reduced to 26/3 and the wickets continued to tumble as the moment of tension was quickly forgotten. However, had the catch not been taken and South Africa did not go on to dominate, there’s no doubt that incident would have been a major talking point.

Still, it would be interesting to hear what Bosch had to say about the incident.
