Dale Steyn is recovering well after shoulder surgery which cut short his stint as a commentator at the ongoing T20 World Cup.
Last week Steyn revealed he was leaving India and Sri Lanka to return home to South Africa to attend to the injury he picked up in the Legends League.
It was a pity that his work had to come to an abrupt end at the World Cup, as he had become something of a revelation with his passionate commentary, most notably during South Africa’s rollercoaster group match against Afghanistan.
The 42-year-old issued the update on X.
“Surgery went well, Doc said no fun things for 4 months… We all know that ain’t gonna happen! So it’s a new injury, tore my pec off the tendon and needed it reattached, just reminding myself further why not to play old man cricket leagues,” said Steyn.
“Thanks for the messages of support! Always appreciated.”
During that Afghanistan clash, Steyn took over the commentary booth much like he did on the pitch during his fast bowling career, and it was pure cinema.
The match, which was widely referred to as the greatest cricket match ever played, was elevated in intensity thanks to Steyn.
The Proteas required two Super Overs to beat Afghanistan, But the crux of the matter came before those two Super Overs. But the crux of the matter came before those two Super Overs.
Kagiso Rabada was the hero as he got Noor Ahmad out as South Africa began celebrating their victory. Those celebrations were short-lived though, as the siren sounded to indicate Rabada had overstepped to concede a no-ball and a free hit. All this was too much for Steyn, as he began shouting at the top of his voice into the microphone.
