Tristan Stubbs and David Miller found themselves part of Indian Premier League (IPL) history on Monday, but those records will certainly be unwanted.
Turning out for Delhi Capitals, Stubbs and Miller were part of the side which was reduced to 8/6 in just the fourth over of the contest.
Led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3/5) and Josh Hazlewood (4/12), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) held DC to 13/6 in the first six overs.
This was the lowest-ever power play score in IPL history.
DC were five wickets down in 2.4 overs and six wickets down in 3.5 overs, making them the fastest to lose five and six wickets in the competition’s history.
When they were reduced to 8/6, it was also the lowest score for the sixth wicket in all T20 franchise cricket.
Though they recovered, slightly, to 75 all out - that was also DC’s third lowest in their history.
As RCB knocked off the total in 6.3 overs with 81 balls remaining, it was the second biggest win in terms of ball remaining in IPL history.
For the SA pair, Stubbs was out five, while Miller made the second highest score with his 19 runs from 18 balls.
Still, it was probably a match both Proteas players would want to forget quickly.
There was more bad news for SA cricket fans in the IPL over the weekend as well. Lungi Ngidi suffered a suspected concussion on Saturday. Also representing DC, Ngidi fell badly while attempting a catch in just the third over of the Punjab Kings chase, and hit his head hard on the ground.
Ngidi was stretchered off and rushed to hospital but was later discharged. DC, though, have yet to indicate how long the SA pacer will be out of action.
