South Africans Heinrich Klaasen, Donovan Ferreira, and Nandre Burger are all expected to be in action in the Indian Premier League (IPL) Eliminator between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), in New Chandigarh, on Wednesday.
While Klaasen will be turning out for SRH, Ferreira and Burger will be in the pink of RR.
It will be a much improved viewing experience for SA cricket fans, and there was just one Proteas player in action in the first playoff match on Tuesday. That was Kagiso Rabada for Gujarat Titans (GT) as they went down by 92 runs to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Qualifier 1. GT will advance to Qualifier 2 on Friday.
The clash between RR and SRH is different though, as the loser of the match will be exiting the competition while the winner progresses to Qualifier 2 against GT.
Meanwhile, Klaasen is still in the running for the Orange Cap (highest run scorer in IPL 2026).
Klaasen has scored 606 runs from 14 matches, at an average of 50 and an incredible strike rate of 159. GT’s Sai Sudharsen leads the scoring charts with 652, while another GT batter, Shubnam Gill, is second with 618, as Klaasen is third.
Since Klaasen bats in the middle order, simply being in the conversation for top-run scorer near the end of the competition is a massive achievement.
Burger, though, could have a big say in how Klaasen fares, as the tall left-armer will be a key bowler for RR. Burger is 31st in the bowling rankings this season, with 11 wickets from as many matches.
Ferreira could also have a big impact, as he has had during the season for RR. After playing just three games across his first two seasons of the IPL, Ferreira has played 13 in 2026.
That’s down to Ferreira's impressive performances as a rising batsman, as he has notched up 267 runs at an average of 33 at an astronomical strike rate of 170.
