South African franchises dominate the United Rugby Championship Elite XV of the season, locking down eight positions in the dream team voted for by the media.
The URC semi-finalists, the Stormers and the Bulls, provide the largest contingents of the entire competition with three players apiece, while the history-making Lions claim two spots in the star-studded line-up.
In total, eight of the 15 positions were awarded to South African stars by a panel of media pundits spanning all five territories.
Leading the charge for the Capetonians is loose-forward powerhouse Evan Roos, who was universally recognised after finishing the regular campaign as the league’s top try-scorer with 12 scores.
He is joined by his Stormers teammates Ntuthuko Mchunu, who anchors the front row, and superstar playmaker Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, who claimed the flyhalf berth after finishing the regular season as the competition's top points-scorer with 158 points.
The Bulls are equally well-represented, with star scrumhalf Embrose Papier and hooker Johan Grobbelaar, who touched down nine and eight times respectively during the season, earning starting spots alongside lock Cobus Wiese.
Meanwhile, the Lions' historic campaign, which saw them break into the URC play-offs for the first time and deservingly secure the South African Shield, was also rewarded.
Bruising flanker Ruan Venter takes his place in the back row, while fullback Quan Horn secures the No 15 jersey. Horn's remarkable durability was also celebrated, having played every single minute of the regular season to pick up the league's Ironman award for the second time in his career.
Former Blitzbok Werner Kok, now turning out for Ulster, ensures a ninth South African native is in the mix after crossing for 10 tries this season.
The remaining six spots in the Elite XV were scattered across four other teams, with Ulster, Connacht, Leinster, and the Glasgow Warriors filling remaining gaps.
* To be eligible for selection, players had to make at least nine appearances during the regular campaign from a data-driven shortlist provided by URC StatMaster.
