Ruben Amorim has been sacked as Manchester United manager.
This comes a day after the club were held to a 1-all draw by Leeds United at Elland Road, a result that left the club in sixth place in the Premier League.
"With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish," Manchester United said in their statement announcing the decision.
"The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.
"Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team against Burnley on Wednesday."
The decision was taken after Amorim's comments after the Elland Road draw, in which he stated he felt he should have been given more power to run the club, saying he wanted to be the manager, and not head coach, the title he was given when he was appointed in 2024.
"I know my name is not [Antonio] Conte, [Thomas] Tuchel, or [Jose] Mourinho but I'm the manager of Manchester United," Amorim said after Sunday's game.
"It's going to be like this for 18 months or until the board decide to change. I'm not going to quit.
"I'll do my job until another guy is coming here to replace me."
