Mbabane Highlanders AM, the Eswatini club owned by Durban businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize, have appointed former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo to their technical team.
Khuzwayo, who retired from professional football at the age of 29 six years ago, was unveiled by the club on Sunday. He will be tasked with overseeing performance and player development across the club’s structures.
In a statement confirming the appointment, Mbabane Highlanders AM said Khuzwayo’s experience in South Africa’s top flight and his international exposure with Bafana Bafana would strengthen the club’s technical setup.
“His professionalism, technical insight and contemporary approach to the game are expected to play a key role in driving performance and player development across the Club,” the statement read.
The appointment forms part of the club’s broader effort to reinforce its technical department and establish higher performance standards as it pursues long-term growth both on and off the pitch.
Mkhize was installed as chairperson of Mbabane Highlanders ahead of the current Premier League of Eswatini season. Her involvement in the club followed the collapse of her Betway Premiership side Royal AM, who were expelled from the PSL last year after being placed under curatorship.
Royal AM were removed from the league as part of a process to recover an estimated R40 million owed by Mkhize to the South African Revenue Service. After the club’s demise, Mkhize shifted her focus to Eswatini football, later rebranding Mbabane Highlanders to Mbabane Highlanders AM, incorporating her son’s initials into the club’s name.
