It’s no secret that Relebohile Mofokeng is one of the brightest prospects in South African football at the moment, and now Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou seems to have found a way to get even more out of his young talent.

Pirates beet AmaZulu 2-0 in their Betway Premiership clash at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Tuesday evening.

The 21-year-old Mofokeng scored the first goal and his powerful strike resulted in an own-goal for the second.

Against AmaZulu, Mofokeng filled a more central attacking role like a traditional number 10 would - just like he did against Magesi FC three days prior.

“Look, I really see a lot of things that his coach should play him on the side, he is better there, but he has many positions this player because he is talented," Ouaddou told SuperSport after the game.

"He can play on the side, in the middle but for us, it’s to notify us the technician and coach where he is able to bring the biggest of qualities.

“And since we make him play in the middle, he makes assist, he scores so I think it’s a good position and I think we have to keep him there.”

With the win, Pirates rose to summit of the table with 35 points from 15 matches. The Soweto Giants are now three ahead of defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sundowns, of course, are gunning for their ninth league title in a row. Pirates have finished runners-up to Sundowns the last three seasons in a row, and finally may be ready to challenge the Brazilians’ supremacy.
