Reports have emerged indicating that John Steenhuisen, the Federal leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA), is set to announce his decision not to contest in the upcoming party leadership race.
The DA is scheduled to hold its national federal congress in April, where Steenhuisen was anticipated to face competition from notable figures, including Western Cape Premier Alan Winde, Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis, and Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Solly Malatsi.
Last month, it was reported that Steenhuisen had indicated his availability for re-election for a third term. However, he has now called a press conference in Durban for tomorrow, where he plans to address "concerning matters of national importance and public interest."
Additionally, Federal Council chairperson Helen Zille's name has also been mentioned as a potential contender in the leadership race.
This is a developing story.
