National Coloured Congress’s Fadiel Adams on Sunday made a litany of accusations against the SAPS and KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi after he claimed that members of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) stormed a house he previously owned in Mitchell’s Plain.
At a media briefing at Parliament, Adams claimed that 15 members of the now PKTT stormed a house in Westridge, Mitchell’s Plain, on Saturday searching for him.
Adams claimed that this unit produced no search warrant, no warrant of arrest, and pointed rifles at a woman, assaulted a startled 12-year-old boy, and traumatised an entire family while searching the wrong house.
Adams said that the property in question was owned by him until a few weeks ago, when it was recently sold.
“I no longer live there. With a budget of hundreds of millions of rands a year, this corrupt unit can't even get an address right. As a result of this, an innocent teacher, a thirty-year-old female, had rifles pointed in her face.
“Her husband was made to lie on the ground. Her twelve-year-old son was assaulted by something that claimed to be a police officer. This happened, a case was laid.
“I then went to the police station and made a case of intimidation against the South African Police Services. I do believe that this raid is engineered by Lieutenant-General Mkhwanazi, the self-proclaimed saviour of the SAPS.
“The weakest form of police commissioner this country had in 30 years; the coward from KZN who ran away when the country needed him.”

When questioned by journalists about proof of the raid and why there was no photographic evidence, Adams claimed that residents from the area had been too scared to take pictures of the men with rifles.
Adams also brought up Mkhwanazi’s remarks from Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee, in which he claimed that Adams used a blue light escort to the prison in Westville.
“I was indeed escorted by Metro police, not the SAPS, to the Westville Prison. While on my official duty, I went to Westmore Prison to interview the killer of one of our finest, Sindiso Magaqa. I think this country's forgotten about him. He was killed for exposing corruption in Durban.
“The killer has given me a written statement saying that he was escorted to the crime and from the scene by the SAPS; the killer wants to tell the truth, he wants nothing in exchange, not a reduction of sentence, not a financial reward.
“Mkhwanazi hasn't sent a single policeman to go and hear this man's story. Not one. What Mkhwanazi has done is insinuated to Parliament that I've committed a crime.”

Adams further attacked Mkhwanazi, claiming that he is not scared of him and that he is “prepared to die”.
He also brought up how he had previously told Mkhwanazi that if Mkhwanazi had a warrant for his arrest, he would avail himself to show up at any police station he chose.
“Now understand, I've made it clear to this man weeks ago. If you have a warrant, don't come with drama. Don't send rifles into my house. Don't come and traumatise my kids and all that type of s##t, which is what the PKTT is known for. I said, I will hand myself over. What does he do? He allows it to happen anyway. This is intimidation. I'm not intimidated.”
Adams claimed that he has reached out to Acting Minister Firoz Cachalia and also the new Acting Police Commissioner, Major General Puleng Dimpane, but has not heard anything back from them.
Adams had shared emails allegedly from Mkhwanazi sent to Acting Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection in KZN, Major-General Anthony Gopaul.
The April letter was from NCC’s secretary-general, Sakeena Frenchman, who said that they had heard about a warrant of arrest for Adams, and they shared the details for Adams’ attorney.

Mkhwanazi states that he has heard that Gopaul is looking for Adams. He also shared a letter which was emailed to Cachalia and a copy of which was sent to him in April.
The April letter was from the NCC’s secretary-general, Sakeena Frenchman, who said that they had heard about a warrant of arrest for Adams, and they shared the details for Adams’ attorney.
Mkhwanazi allegedly wrote: “As you know that I have been assigned a task at national level therefore I am not fully aware of the status of investigation work of the PKTT in KZN however I’ve learned that there is a warrant of arrest issued therefore I am sharing this email order for you to advise the team to make contact with this lawyer in order to secure his presence at the police station for processing (sic).”
Western Cape SAPS have not responded to inquiries on the cases of intimidation which were opened.
KZN SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, said: “Police will not be responding to his claims and allegations. If a need for a response comes, it will be given at an appropriate time, using the right channels.”
Spokesperson for Cachalia, Kamogelo Mogotsi, said: “The ministry has noted the various posts and articles about the letter and incident. We are trying to locate the letter alleged to be sent to the minister and will take it from there.”
