The DA held its elective congress on Saturday at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban.

The party said it is ready to work hard to be the dominant party in municipalities across KZN.

“Residents of KZN deserve to live under the benefits that come with DA-run governments. This showcased the values of the DA of free and fair elections.”

Addressing delegates, new party leader Geordin Hill-Lewis said the DA was aiming to become the governing alternative in KZN.

“Here in KZN, the DA must be ambitious. The DA must retain and grow where we already govern.

“We must show that uMngeni is not an exception, but a beginning. uMngeni is proof that the DA can govern in KwaZulu-Natal and govern well.

“But we must not stop there. We must fight for Durban. Durban should be one of the great cities of Africa: a city of growth, tourism, trade, port-led development, clean beaches, reliable services, safe communities, and pride.”
